Grateful for a Park

I am grateful for a park, an outdoor and public place for all to leisure. I am thankful for the planted trees, trimmed shrubbery, and mowed grass of a park. I am glad to surround myself with that which is alive than that which is not. A park provides a respite from the brutalist structures of a city. And even though a park is man-made, is not man also part of nature? While the flora and fauna may not be indigenous, they nonetheless have found a place to dwell and live in the park. Am I any different with regards to a city? I am happy to hear the children giggling in play and watch their parents smile at a distance. I am glad to see the waterfowl wade and swim through the ponds and cricks, even better when with their chicks. I am glad to see partners on walks in search of connection with each other. I am glad to see the reading people in search of connection with the words. I am glad to see the dogs roam and explore the park—sniffing and panting all the while—as if they had never seen or smelt it before, still harboring the curiosity and awe of the world that oft seems dull to the mind of men. I am glad to surround myself with green amid much gray. I am fortunate for this park day.

I am grateful for a park.
